Welcome to the Next-Generation Supermicrosurgery Consortium.

Headed by Dr. Isao Koshima, the Consortium was established to advance and promote the field of supermicrosurgery, from both clinical and industrial perspectives. MIRAI Medtech is a funding support partner.

Since 2020, the Consortium have been holding regularly scheduled Virtual Conferences in Japan. Experts in medicine and engineering are invited to discuss cutting-edge medical treatments and technologies with one another, by challenging the paradigm separating specialties.

Our conferences typically host about fifty individuals. Participants are surgeons and clinicians, researchers, and device engineers. We also encourage and welcome participation by manufacturers and dealers of medical devices.

During 2021, the Next-Generation Supermicrosurgery Consortium started English-based virtual events for international participants. This time we invited Dr. Lanhua Mu to give a talk on “Breast Reconstruction in China“.

“Breast Reconstruction in China“

Breast cancer is the first incidence rate cancer in Chinese women now. The earlier diagnosed, the better result of the treatment. Surgical treatment is not only to “cut” or “dissect”, but also, we refine it to be “precision surgical treatment” for “mastectomy” and axillary (sentinel lymph nodes or dissection), at same time, to “precision reconstruct” including breast (partial or total) reconstruction and axillary dissection related upper arm lymphedema prevention and treatment. During this process, microsurgery / supermicrosurgery / nano-microsurgery is indispensable. And lymphatic imaging technique is indispensable also.

As a female plastic surgeon, how can I insist on the above? How can I popularize this? How can I encourage young female plastic surgeons to learn this? I would love to share my 33 years’ experience focusing on this work.
